In which I report on the latest in entertainment news.
The marketing campaign for Mockingjay - Part 2 has begun! Lionsgate has released the first poster for the final Hunger Games film and it looks about like you'd expect it to.
That's not to say that it's bad, mind you. It's just that it looks exactly like what everybody was expecting based on the marketing of the previous films: a mockingjay cloaked in flames, freed from the confinement of its pin. It looks great, even if we've seen it already.
It seems altogether odd to me that a movie that's coming out at the tail end of November is already beginning its ad campaign in March. But when you look at what's coming out later this year, it makes perfect sense. Despite how successful the previous films in the franchise have proven to be, Mockingjay can't hope to compete with the likes of Star Wars when it gets its ad machine going. If it has any hope of staying relevantly in the public's mind, it has to hit the ground running now.
I expect that we're going to see at least a teaser trailer in the not too distant future, maybe even before Age of Ultron comes out. With the less than expected turnout for Part 1, it can't afford to be lost in the summer shuffle or start its campaign alongside The Force Awakens.
