Extra, Extra!: Why Everything We Know About Batman vs Superman May Be a Lie

In which I report on the latest in entertainment news.

Although nothing's been confirmed yet by official sources, but crew members who have worked on the film are claiming that Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice will be split into two movies.  What's more, the first installment of this duology might hit theaters as soon as September.

Although this rumor started circulating earlier this year, I never really bought into it.  The word on the street then was that the first installment, Batman vs Superman: Enter the Knight, would hit theaters on October 23, 2015 and that the concluding chapter, Dawn of Justice, would be released on March 25, 2016.  While DC never denied the rumor, they never verified it either, letting the hype run its course as free publicity for what was sure to be a cornerstone in their superhero movie lineup.

My argument against this rumor are the same now that they were back then.  Although shooting for the film wrapped up a while ago, there's simply not enough time to market it in such a crowded year before its would-be release date.  This is even truer now than it was then, since it's much closer to its alleged 2015 release date and the biggest marketing for the film so far has been a brief do-nothing teaser trailer from ComicCon and a brooding black-and-white still of Batman.

Even Mockingjay - Part 2, with its confirmed release date of November 20 - has started its marketing campaign already.  Granted, it's just a teaser trailer and a teaser poster for now, but it's still something.  If these rumors - which will invariably be addressed at next month's WonderCon - prove to be true, DC has a Hell of a lot of ground to make up for and virtually no time to do it in.
