Extra, Extra!: More Pieces Fall Into Place for Blade Runner 2

In which I report on the latest in entertainment news.

Fans of the cult sci-fi classic Blade Runner will be pleased to know that the pieces for its sequel are beginning to fall into place.  Harrison Ford - who is mercifully fine after yesterday's plane crash - is set to reprise his role as Rick Deckard.  Even more exciting, however, is the director that they're looking into tapping to helm the project.
Denis Villeneuve is reportedly set to direct the as of yet unnamed sequel to the 1982 sci-fi noir film.  Although his name will certainly mean less to nothing to the casual movie-goer, I personally could not be happier about this announcement.  Villeneuve is the director who master-minded what proved to be one of my favorite movies of 2014: Enemy.  He's the kind of meticulously precise, methodically driven and cerebrally visionary director that's perfect to continue the Philip K. Dick-based story about a retired Blade Runner whose job was to hunt down and destroy biorobotic androids known as replicants.

The writers for the project also inspire a bit more enthusiasm about the film.  Hampton Fancher was one of the screenwriters who penned the script for the original Blade Runner, ensuing some amount of continuity between the decades-spanning series.  And although some might cringe at the inclusion of Michael Green - who co-wrote the script for the universally reviled Green Lantern - he also worked on the much better received Heroes and Smallville, and it also set to working on the scripts for Prometheus 2 and The Flash.  It also warrants pointing out that studio involvement more than anything else is what tanked the Ryan-Reynolds superhero vehicle.  I'm more than willing to give Green the benefit of the doubt, especially with Fancher's involvement.
So what are you most looking forward to in the Blade Runner sequel?
