Trailer Park: Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection of F

In which I discuss the latest movie trailers.

After discussing the Ant-Man trailer back in January, I realized that it was a little beyond the news-reporting scope of the Extra, Extra! segment.  So now, with the newly released trailer for Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection of F, I bring you Trailer Park: an article series all about trailers and what they tell us about their movies.  So if you haven't already, check out the trailer here:

Although I admittedly don't speak Japanese, there's never the less a lot to be gleaned from the new trailer.  It appears now that the Frieza's remnant forces finally make their way to Earth to avenge their former leader.  Using the Dragon Balls to reanimate the interplanetary tyrant, they unleash Hell upon the Earth and those who defend it.  Now possessing a golden transformation of his own, Frieza is able to overpower Goku, forcing the Saiyan to make good on his promise to Vegeta at the end of Battle of Gods: that the next time they would need a Saiyan God, it would be Vegeta.

Akira Toriyama seems to have found the solution to Dragon Ball Z's chiefest problem: the side-lining of previously important characters with the misfortune of not being born Saiyans.  The trailer features money shots of the frequently ignored Z-fighters kicking a lot of ass.  It includes a forested chase featuring Krillin, a cornered Tien blasting his way out of a canyon with a Tri-Beam, Piccolo unleashing an aerial assault on an army of Frieza's henchmen and an especially epic-looking Master Roshi.

Like Battle of Gods, Resurrection of F promises flashbacks of the tv series' most memorable scenes beautifully re-animated in high definition.  The glimpses we get of Goku's rematch with Frieza are especially exciting, especially when the re-animated Frieza levels the playing field with a brand new ultimate form.  The dramatic potential of Vegeta is especially enticing, as he appears to finally get the opportunity to avenge his slaughtered people that death denied him on Namek.

We also now have a release date for the film (at least in Japan): April 18th.  Given that Battle of Gods was released at the end of March 2013 and didn't come stateside until early 2014, it's unlikely that we'll be seeing a dubbed version anytime this year.  Still, for a movie that looks this awesome, I'm willing to wait around a bit for the translation.
